Export Management Course

The West Virginia First-STEP-Next STEP program was designed in part to continue to create awareness about the benefits of exporting which include faster sales growth and job creation, and result in a positive impact to the economic development of the state of West Virginia. The key to success is to take advantage of the wide variety of the export tools and resources offered by the Export Promotion Program of the West Virginia Development Office and its strategic partners; and to have a solid understanding of the exporting process.

Small businesses, with or without any previous international trade experience, seeking for in-depth export training to successfully develop an export business strategy are encouraged to enroll in the Export Management Course Spring 2017.

The Export Management Course is a program supported by the Export Promotion Program of the West Virginia Development Office, designed to promote exporting in West Virginia, by helping participants assess their export readiness skills, and by guiding them through every aspect of exporting.

The course is taught by a panel of leading professionals focusing on export readiness, trade finance, international legal considerations, export marketing strategies, export regulations, export logistics, global business management and more. Participating companies will select a group of students from West Virginia University (WVU) and Marshall University and will together design an export business development strategy including an export readiness evaluation, three top markets of opportunity, and a financial marketing plan. These courses will be offered at both universities over five weekend sessions during their 2017 spring semester. The export management course has been hosted annually by WVU for 11 years and more than 55 West Virginia companies have participated. Marshall University has hosted this class for four years and more than 20 West Virginia companies have participated.

The West Virginia First STEP-Next STEP program will reserve some of its Export Promotion Reimbursement Program funds to assist five eligible small businesses having completed the 2017 Export Management Course. The completion of this course does not guarantee funding approval. Small businesses that have completed the course must follow the application process under the Export Promotion Reimbursement Program.
