My favorite place to go when I am in west Virginia is to Clarksburg to see my favorite uncle

Angela, age 18

My grandpa lives in West Virginia and I love to go and visit him! We go to waterparks and baseball games with him. We always have so much fun! I also love to see all the big mountains on the way and the boats on the river. I would really like to win the tickets so I can get to ride the train through the beautiful mountains.

Alex, age 8
New Philadelphia, OH

My family went to Cabela's. It was AWESOME! I really liked seeing all the animals including the live fish. They had an aquarium so we could see a lot of different kinds of fish. I thought it was really cool that they had a pond, waterfall, and mountain in the middle of a store. There were fish in the pond too. On the mountain there were alot of different animals from all over the world. Cabela's even has deer from British Columbia. They were in a different place though. There were a lot of deer there and some of them my mommy said held world records. There is even a game at Cabela's that you can play. You can shoot at targets. It was really fun visiting Cabela's.

I had a lot of fun.

When I was about ten years old I went to Senaca rocks. When I was touering the caverns they told a story about a rock that it was said to fall some day. At the end of the tour we heard a loud thud. The tour guide said follow me and we will see if the rock fell, but the rock did not fall. It was just a medium size rock. I was scared for a minute. I thought the big rock fell.

Thomas, age 11
Buckhannon, WV

I had the most extraordinary time at Snowshoe Resort in WV! We rode the Green Zebra, (Dune Buggies) on a trail. We got off the buggies and walked up a hill where the Cass Railroad tracks were to watch the train go by. I got a enormous piece of Mett-coal to take home with me. The best part was when our guide, Andy, was wanting to play a joke on the people on the train, so he dressed up as Sasquash, and went behind us to hide in the tall grass and told us to not to look back at him. When the train came by, he jumped out, and the people kept pointing in amazement. It was so funny! We also stayed in the resort with a humongous pool. I went to the pool with my family and had a wonderful time sliding down those slippery slides. Me and my little brother also liked the bungy jump. This was an enjoyable trip!

Taylor, age 10
Summersville, WV

I like the Bridgeport pool. I can cool off in the pool when it is hot out. I can lay in the sun and relax. Last but not least, I can walk over to Dairy Queen and get some ice cream. The Bridgeport pool is a great place for me.

When I went to West Virginia my aunt and uncle took us around the Kingwood, WV area. They took us to a cave near their town that rock had been mined out of. They took us to see Cold Springs park. I reallly liked looking at the old farm equipment and train cars and the cool store. Another thing that I liked was the Trans-allegheny Lunatic Asylum. We went on a tour. I liked looking at the pictures the patients had made. They were very interesting. I also liked Copper's Rock park. I liked looking off the cliff at the mountains.

Over the summer I did lots of things.
My family went camping to Stonewall Jackson in West Virginia. We did all kinds of things like swim, walk, and we took a boat ride. I also went riding my four wheeler this summer and crashed!!! My dad & mom took me & my brother to the caves this summer.
On our way there (Seneca & Smokehole Caverns) we stopped to see the big waterfall (Blackwater Falls). It was a long walk down to see it but the walk back to our car was longer, I think. It was very pretty when we got down there to see it. We took a lot of pictures of it, & we took pictures of our family in front of the waterfall too. I really liked going in the caves to see all the stuff in it to. It was dark in there but you can still see where you are going & what's in there. My favorite part was the one cave that had the Princess Room in it. It was really pretty & looked like there was crowns & stuff shaped into the rocks. We spent all day looking around at these places & we really had fun together spending family time with each other. I can't wait until we can go back there again. Really my favorite place to visit in West Virginia is the Black Walnut Festival. I like to go & watch the kiddie parade on Friday & the Grand Parade on Saturday. I was able to be in the parade & ride on a float for the first time this year. My school friends voted me to be Little Miss. Panther at our school, so I got to wear a crown & ride through the parade waving at everyone. My mom bought me a beautiful dress & got my hair done. My friend that done my hair put a little bit of makeup on me & done my fingernails too. I really liked getting dressed up like a princess or queen. Everyone kept telling me how pretty I was. I can't wait until next year when it's time for the Black Walnut Festival again. I like to go to the barn & see all the animals that are there too (for the FFA & 4-H kids showing & sales). I love animals. I want to be a veternarian or a cheerleading when I grow up. I think that would be so much fun!

I have been to a bunch of great places in West Virginia this year.
I went swimming at Sutton Lake with my parents and older brothers. It was really fun and I liked playing with my trucks in the sand. I wanna go back soon when it gets warm again. I went camping at Chief Logan State Park and it was awesome. We went hiking and I loved seeing the forest. We went swimming and built a campfire. I even got to roast marshmallows and make smores. They're yummy. There was even a cool museum and a old train to look at. I hope we camp again next year too. I also got to go to Ft. Ashby WV and watch my big brothers play football. They are really good and I wanna play football just like them. I have been wanting to ride a train for a long time. My mom and dad say we will go next year. I think they are really cool and I love it when they whistle.

I went to the WV State Fair.
I always enjoy the rides and the horse shows. I visited the Point Pleasant battlefield as a fieldtrip with school. I really enjoyed that. I like to see things that are from the past. Items that my great grandparents used on farms and such. I also had the opportunity to go to Holly River to camp for a week. I learned alot about nature on that trip. This weekend I went to the Black Walnut Festival. That was a new experience for me. I have never been but really enjoyed myself. I will be going again in the future that is for sure.

My dad and mom took me and my baby brother to Cass and we rode the train.
It rained but we stayed dry under the roof of the train car. My baby brother fell asleep but woke up each time the whistle blew.

So far, I have two favorite places I visited.
The first is Cranberry Glades. I love the walk on the wooden sidewalk and looking at the animals and flowers. The day we were there, we heard about snakes and got to touch some. That morning a bunch of rattlesnakes were born.

I love going to Blackwater Falls. We have been there in the spring, fall, and winter. We have pictures. We need go go in the summer.

My mom and dad and sister and I are in the VIPP program. It stands for Very Important Parks Participant. Our goal is to go to all of the state parks this summer. We also want to tour the state.

I think that I am going to like this site alot. Thank you First Lady Tomblin for your participation in this project.

The place in West Virginia I like the most is Canaan Valley.
I like to visit Canaan Valley in the summer. It has cool things to do, like going on the ski lifts, walking down to Blackwater Falls, and lots of hiking. I like to go hiking on the trails in the woods with my family. You can see lots of nature there. We see deer, birds, snakes, and sometimes even a Black Bear. You can also stay in some nice log cabins and have some fun family time with your family.
