The National Register of Historic Places records dated July 17, 1970, declared the Wine Cellars to be a historic site. The cellars only functioned for three years for fermenting the grapes before the civil war took its toll, they were never altered and looked substantially as they do today, except for some crumbling of the arched entrances.
The three separate, but contiguous, vaults with barrel roofs are in effect alike and are carved into the hillside.
The surroundings of the cellars are strictly rural and unspoiled, except for the paved pathways through the wooded area leading to Laura Anderson Lake.
