A downtown museum dedicated to preserving the heritage of the coalfields for future generations. The museum contains memorabilia of the early coal mining days to the present. The museum contains a simulated coal mine and other hands-on activities, and includes a company store and miners home. The adjacent arts center holds a display of Daniel Boone and the story behind how the county got its name. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. and is available for special tours.
