This is the only Chestnut Festival in the Appalachian Chain States. It is always held on the Sunday of the Columbus Day Weekend (October 7, 2012). Features include roasted chestnuts over an open fire in the park, numerous food, craft and chestnut vendors. There will be visits to the Szilagyi Center to visit the WWII Museum, the B&O Bridge Exhibit, River City Cafe, River City Emporium and the Preston County Sports Museum. There will also be rides to historic Cannon Hill (weather permitting). Educational classes concerning the chestnut will be conducted at the Szilagyi Center and a sumptious banquet will follow at 5:30 pm featuring various chestnut dishes. The keynote speaker this year will be Dr. Dennis Fulbright, Michigan State University. There will also be a meeting of the West Virginia Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation at 1:00 pm at the Szilagyi Center. Mark and Mindy Double will be honored as "Mr. and Mrs. Chestnut" for our 5th Annual event.
