The "Terror of the Tug" play takes us back to McDowell County in the early 1920s when Sheriff Sid Hatfield and Deputy Ed Chambers were shot and killed on the Welch Courhouse steps. This is what sets the mood for the rest of the play which is an account of the events that had occurred during the Coal Wars in Southern West Virginia. The story is told through the eyes of a miner, a Baldwin-Felts detective, and two historical figures, Mother Jones and CE Lively. Each, of course, have their own Sid Hatfield story to tell. They tell of the Matewan Massacre in Mingo County and they also tell of Sid's supposed love affair with Jessie Testerman, the Mayor of Matewan's wife. This intense historical drama has been brought back by popular demand and has been praised by many to be a must see outdoor drama! Bring your own lawn chairs and enjoy the evening. A concession stand will be provided. Call 304-888-2057 for advanced ticket information.
