Professional baseball in West Virginia

Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, WVMinor-league baseball is already thriving in Southern West Virginia.  In downtown Charleston, the capital of the state, Appalachian Power Park hosts the West Virginia Power, a minor league baseball team affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In Mercer County, two rookie league teams play in the Appalachian League - the Princeton Rays and Bluefield Orioles.  This summer, a fourth baseball operation will entertain fans in Beckley.

Linda K. Epling StadiumThe West Virginia Miners will play their inaugural season in the Prospect League, a collegiate wooden-bat league that includes teams from six states and is affiliated with Major League Baseball and the NCAA. Some of the nation's top college players, mostly those heading into their senior seasons, will be pursuing their pro-ball dreams at brand-new Linda K. Epling Stadium, a 3,000-seat venue featuring a panoramic mountaintop view of the state's picturesque splendor in Beckley.
