Forestry Releases New BMP Manual

Due to the production of some of the highest-value hardwoods in the country, the state’s timbering industry is a major contributor to West Virginia’s economy.

To help keep professional loggers up-to-date on recommended Best Management Practices (BMP) to control soil erosion and sedimentation, and to keep our streams and waters clean, the Division of Forestry introduces the revised West Virginia Silvicultural Best Management Practices for Controlling Soil Erosion and Sedimentation from Logging Operations manual.

Developed and updated by representatives of state and federal agencies, environmental groups and private industry, West Virginia’s BMP manual is a professional logger’s key reference for minimizing soil erosion and soil movement into streams.
