2016 West Virginia Arbor Day Poster Contest

Dear fourth- and fifth-grade teachers,

We live in a state that is blessed with 12 million acres of forests. Daily these trees contribute to our physical and economic well-being. I ask you to help me celebrate Arbor Day this year by having your students participate in the West Virginia Arbor Day Poster Contest.

This year’s contest theme is “Trees Are Growing!” Included you will find the contest rules and regulations and suggested activities you can use to teach our children about the importance of trees while they showcase their artist talents.

The contest is open to public, private and home schooling teachers and students in West Virginia. All entries must be received by Thursday, March 31, 2016.

The contest is sponsored by the West Virginia Division of Forestry and the West Virginia Urban and Community Forestry Council. Judges will select one fourth-grade and one fifth-grade winner. Those winners will receive a $30 cash prize from the West Virginia Forestry Association and be invited to participate in a tree-planting event at the state capitol complex.

Thank you in advance for participating in the 2016 West Virginia Arbor Day Poster Contest. I extend my personal gratitude to each of you for the guidance and leadership you provide to our state’s students on a daily basis.
