DuPont Washington Works Honored for Workforce Development

Charleston, W.Va – DuPont Washington Works was recently named an “Employer of the Year” by WorkForce West Virginia for their outstanding commitment to developing a skilled workforce.  The award was presented during the Building Workforce Success Together conference sponsored by the United States Department of Labor.

DuPont manufactures products for the automotive, construction, and related industries. The company employs more than 1700 people with plans to hire 140 more by the end of 2011. One of its goals was to create an employee training process that would allow workers to successfully transfer their skills among the various production units at Washington Works.

“This employer has built strong partnerships to provide West Virginia workers with the skills needed to be productive and competitive,” said Russell L. Fry, acting executive director. “In addition, DuPont is  involved in the community as good corporate citizens.”

“DuPont is well-deserving of this honor,” said Kim Wood of WorkForce West Virginia, who nominated the company for the award. “In a tough economy and in a location where several manufacturing companies have faltered, DuPont continues to thrive and steps forward at any opportunity to help the community.”

Each year, employees raise money and volunteer their time to the United Way and other local charities. DuPont is also a major sponsor of the annual Ohio River Sweep, the largest river cleanup project in the world. The company sparks a love of science and math in hundreds of school-age children each year with its “Fun with Science” road show.

WorkForce West Virginia is a cooperative effort to provide one-stop delivery of career services to job seekers, employers and other interested individuals. More information is available online at www.workforcewv.org
