Apogee Honored as “Employer of the Year” for Workforce Development

Charleston, W.Va – Apogee Coal Company was recently named an “Employer of the Year” by WorkForce West Virginia for its outstanding commitment to developing a skilled workforce.  The award was presented during the Building Workforce Success Together conference sponsored by the United States Department of Labor.

Apogee offers an outstanding wage and benefit package to its employees. The company participates in job fairs on a regular basis and gives hiring preference to veterans. During a struggling economy, Apogee has hired dozens of workers at its location in Yolyn.

“Apogee helps WorkForce West Virginia with its mission by referring candidates to us who they are not able to hire for various reasons,” said Russell Fry, acting executive director of WorkForce West Virginia. “Often we are able to place those candidates with other companies.”

"Apogee is well-deserving of this honor,” said Connie Cline of WorkForce West Virginia, who nominated the company for the award. “In a tough economy, Apogee continues to thrive and help the community.”

Apogee Coal is a member of the Coal Heritage Museum, where they sponsor projects and displays of coal mining.

WorkForce West Virginia is a cooperative effort to provide one-stop delivery of career services to job seekers, employers and other interested individuals. More information is available online at www.workforcewv.org
