State Parks Offer Sweet Options for Valentines Feb. 10 and 11

    SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. - February 14 is Valentine’s Day, but the prior weekend is full of dances, dinners and entertainment at West Virginia’s state parks, making Feb. 10 and 11 Sweetheart Weekend across the state. Here’s what park guests and visitors will find at these West Virginia state parks:

Pipestem Resort   –  www.pipestemresort.com
    A sweetheart dance and dinner on Saturday, Feb. 11, and other activities are planned for the Valentine weekend, according to Shirley Martin, Activities Coordinator, at Pipestem.  The Collegians Band is featured for the Sweetheart Dance on Saturday. The weekend package cost per couple is $235.72 and includes two nights’ lodging at McKeever Lodge, Saturday dinner for two, the dance and other activities scheduled at the park.     A new lodge welcomes sweethearts back to Twin Falls State Park. The Valentine weekend Feb. 10-12, offers two nights’ lodging at the Twin Falls Lodge or one of the 14 cabins, Friday evening activities, Saturday morning nature walk, Saturday evening dinner, dance, DJ music, hors d’oeuvres, complimentary souvenir champagne glass, drink mixers, and a Sweet Cash Auction.

    According to Bryan Danford, activities coordinator, “guests will earn ‘sweet cash’ for the auction on Friday night. A king and queen will be crowned during the dance Saturday evening.”  For additional information or reservations for Twin Falls State Park, call 304-294-4000.

    Make a short journey with your sweetheart to Cacapon State Park in Morgan County. Find time to relax and enjoy the park surroundings as well as the entertainment and special sweetheart meal.  The overnight package includes lodging, evening dinner, entertainment and breakfast. Dinner is from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 and includes stuffed flounder with crab imperial and carved prime rib as entrees.  The overnight package price is $134.96 per couple, according to Renee Fincham, activities coordinator.     North Bend goes all out on sweetheart weekend beginning Friday, Feb. 10, with caricatures by Gordie and musical entertainment with Scott Cain.  “The ice cream social at 8:30 p.m. is always a favorite,” said Ken Zebo, activities coordinator.   Saturday, Feb. 11, includes local tours, card making and chocolates on the square with guest instructors Michelle Mills and Vicki Crawford, a rail trail hike, two dinner seatings, and live music by Stepping Stones with the dance at 9 p.m.

    The North Bend Honey Package includes two nights of lodging (Friday and Saturday), Friday night Sundae Bar, Saturday morning breakfast buffet, Saturday night dinner, dance, and refreshments, in addition to all activities and crafts. The cost per couple for the complete package is $290.  The Darling Package includes Saturday night dinner, dance, and refreshments at $100 per couple. “Our weekend is simply a nice getaway,” said Zebo.     Elvis is in the house once again at Chief Logan Lodge on Feb. 11.  Wrenn Mangum performs as Elvis as a dinner theater. The overnight package for staying at Chief Logan Lodge is $130 per couple and includes the Elvis Tribute and dinner for two.  Dinner and show only is $80.90.  The doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.  Reservations are required and available at 304-855-6100.

    A romance retreat to Stonewall for a Friday, Feb. 10, or  Saturday, Feb. 11, lakeside setting is offered.  The retreat covers overnight at the lodge, dinner for two in Stillwaters Restaurant, two drink tickets, dancing in Stonewall Ballroom hosted by Craig Giffin of WV Dance, Inc., cookie and dessert bar after dancing, breakfast in Stillwaters and unlimited use of the heated indoor/outdoor pool, Jacuzzis, steam room and sauna. The dinner menus for both evenings are posted on the park website.  Reservations are required for dinner seatings. The cost is $239 per couple for either night.

Tygart Lake –  www.tygartlake.com
    An evening at Tygart Lodge in February is a first.  “The lodge is open this winter for the first time,” said Stephanie Bailey, activities coordinator.  The park restaurant, the Boston Beanery, is featuring dinner for two every evening Feb. 11 – 14. 

    The dinner includes an appetizer of choice, a choice of soup or salad and sides.  Entrees include one-half rack of ribs, crab cakes, beef and chicken options, desserts of Boston Cream Pie, Chocolate Overload or cheesecake, and choice of bottle of champagne or white zinfandel, soft drinks or coffee.  Dinner for two is $39.99. Overnight accommodations are available at Tygart Lake Lodge. The weekend night rate is $70.  For reservations and more information call, 304-265-6144.

    Fab February is a sweetheart weekend package Feb. 10 and 11.
