WEST COLUMBIA, W.Va. – West Virginia Division of Forestry officials are extending the deadline to order tree seedlings through April 30, 2014. Typically, the nursery only accepts orders through mid-April, but Superintendent Jason Huffman said the two-week extension will give landowners more time to survey their properties and determine what type of seedlings they need to order.

“This winter has been hard on forest landowners,” Huffman said. “Heavy snows and ice have damaged and, in many cases, brought down trees. Extending the deadline to order seedlings will give landowners a bit more time to survey their properties and make decisions on what species they need and how many seedlings to buy to restock their forests.”

Huffman also said the extended deadline will benefit the nursery, which has a surplus of several species, including sugar maple, white oak, black walnut, tulip poplar and sycamore. All of these species, Huffman added, are suitable for planting not only in West Virginia, but also in adjoining states because the nursery grows seedlings from seed collected within the region.

All trees are bare-root seedlings and are 1 to 2 years old. Seedlings are sold in bundles of 25 and can be mailed directly to the customer or picked up at the nursery. Clements State Tree Nursery is located in West Columbia, W.Va., on W.Va. Rt. 62 just 11 miles north of Point Pleasant.

Prices depend on the number of seedlings ordered and there is a 30 percent discount offered on orders of 5,000 or more. When ordering, please specify requested delivery date and nursery staff will do their best to meet that date.

Order online at www.wvcommerce.org/ClementsNursery or call 304-675-1820. Order forms can be printed from the website and mailed to Clements State Tree Nursery, 624 Forestry Drive, West Columbia, WV 25287.
