Tuesday Crew Day: Brian Arnold

Where are you from, where are you located now, and what are your ties to WV?

I’m originally from Bluefield, WV and went to college at Concord University in Athens. Currently, I’m based in Los Angeles.

What was your first job in film production and what was the experience like?

Before I moved to L.A., I worked as a set production assistant on “Super 8,” which filmed in Weirton. Working even in a small capacity on such a major Hollywood production was an amazing experience and really influenced me to take that next step and move to Los Angeles.

What was your last job and what were you responsible for?

In the last few years, I’ve actually gotten away from crew work and started to focus more on comedy, writing, and acting. I was a writer on a sketch team at iO West for two years, and I’m currently writing for the CBS Diversity Showcase.

What advice would you give someone wanting to work in the film industry?

To quote Nike, “Just do it.” I was nervous to make the move, but I always felt like I would regret not giving my dreams a real shot. Whatever you want to do: writing, directing, acting, crew work – it’s all possible. It’s all within reach. You’ll get rejected. You’ll get turned down. You’ll make a lot of garbage. But the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll get that out of your system and start doing work you really enjoy.
