Tuesday Crew Day: Jeff Tinnell

Where are you from, where are you located now, and what are your ties to WV?

I am from Rivesville, WV. Our company, Allegheny Image Factory (AIF), has offices in Morgantown and Los Angeles. Since 2009, AIF has produced and continues to produce a variety of film and television productions, as well as commercials, in West Virginia.

What was your first job in film production and what was the experience like?

My first production job was working as a production assistant on George Romero’s “CREEPSHOW” in 1981 in Pittsburgh, PA.

What was your last job and what were you responsible for?

Allegheny Image Factory is currently producing commercials and films for the ongoing “REAL” campaign for WV Tourism. I serve as executive producer for these projects.

What advice would you give someone wanting to work in the film industry?

Having been involved in film production for more than 30 years, I have seen many changes in the industry. Technology is the obvious area and the most prominent with the emergence of delivery platforms, digital technology, and distribution. Let’s face it, when I started in this industry, there were three networks – which has changed dramatically. Understanding how the film industry works, maintaining realistic expectations, and educating yourself are musts. Networking and not allowing disappointment to curtail your dreams and aspirations are also important. Take chances, look for opportunities, and believe in yourself and your abilities.
