Where are you from, where are you located now, and what are your ties to WV?
I’m originally from Moundsville, WV and currently living in Pittsburgh. I’m still close enough to travel to WV for work when it is available.
What was your first job in film production and what was the experience like?
My first “job” was really “jobs.” I day played as a set production assistant. I was exposed to a variety of sets from indies to a Netflix original, and I learned more often than not how NOT to make a movie.
What was your last job and what were you responsible for?
I’m currently working in payroll on the TV show “Outsiders,” where I’m responsible for a lot of paperwork and getting everyone their checks on time. I’m also a freelance sound mixer – the only female mixer in town as far as I know.
What advice would you give someone wanting to work in the film industry?
Don’t be a production assistant forever, and don’t put all your hopes in moving “up the ladder.” Ask for the jobs you want now. Make shorts with your friends so you can teach yourself and fall on your face on your own time. Also, utility belts are your friend!
