WV Mountain State Gospel Singer’s 60th Annual Gospel Singing Convention: July 18-25, Song Convention Road, Mt. Nebo
Join us for our 60th Annual Singing Convention as we worship and sing in the hills of West Virginia. Singers will include youth choirs, quartets, trios, duets and soloists. There is a campground available for tent, trailer, or motor homes and includes modern restrooms and showers. Amenities also include limited electrical services, two dump stations, water, restaurant and a fellowship pavilion with a nightly shared campfire. Admission is free, but donations are accepted and used for maintenance purposes. The facility is handicap friendly and pets are permitted. The Aracoma Story -Spirits & Legends: July 20-Aug. 7, The Liz Spurlock Amphitheatre, Chief Logan State Park, Logan
"The Aracoma Story" blends tales of the Shawnee Indians with the story of young love. Boling Baker, a scout from General Braddock's Army, is captured by the Shawnee who are led by Chief Cornstalk. He is rescued from death by Cornstalk's daughter, Aracoma, and adopted into the tribe that moved to the island in the Guyandotte Valley. The Aracoma Story - Spirits & Legends version of the story graced our stage for the first time in 2009, resulting in one of the best-attended productions of the show in the past two decades.  A cast of more than 50 local actors bring this legendary story to life right before your very eyes with lots of history, drama, action and even a few laughs. Cowen Historical Railroad Festival: July 25-Aug. 1, Cowen
Held for a week each July since 1984, the festival celebrates the railroading origins and heritage of the town and surrounding area. There will be activities for all ages, including boxing, fishing contests, food vendors, arts and crafts, car show, parades, pageants, basketball tournaments, displays, concerts, and railroad-themed activities. The Greenbrier Classic, a PGA TOUR, FedEx Cup Event: July 26-Aug. 1, The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs
The Greenbrier is excited to host the PGA TOUR's newest event as part of the FedEx Cup Series - giving players and fans alike the opportunity to experience professional golf against the backdrop of this American treasure. The Old White Course, The Greenbrier’s original of three golf courses, will be serving as the site of the tournament. The event will feature a field of 156 players competing for a $6 million purse. Sergio Garcia, a seven-time winner on the PGA TOUR with an additional 11 victories internationally, became the first player to commit to The Greenbrier Classic. Garcia is currently ranked 15th in the world.  Two top country music artists will join the world’s greatest golfers at the inaugural event this summer. Award-winning artists Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will perform on Saturday, July 31 in a private concert for Classic attendees and participants. Jackson County Jr. Fair: July 26-31, Jackson County Jr. Fairgrounds, Cottageville
Come one, come all! There is something for everyone from viewing all the exhibits to watching the youth show animals. Pre-fair activities will include Pretty Baby and Little Mr. and Miss Pageant on Saturday, July 24 at 9 a.m. and Pre-teen, Teen, Teen Queen and Fair Queen Pageant at 7 p.m. The animals include steers, heifers, goats, chickens, horses, lambs and hogs. Additional activities will include ATV Drag Race, karaoke contest, carnival, demolition derby, mud racing, mud bog and many other activities. Nightly entertainment is available and parking is free. Appalachian Immersion Family Adventure Camp: Aug. 1-6, Elkins
This is a "dude ranch" experience, with full immersion in the Appalachian mountain lifestyle. Our program includes something for everyone, with a full roster of activities and classes to choose from each day. Activities range from hiking in the nearby Stuarts and Dolly Sods National Recreation Areas to rock climbing at world-famous Seneca Rocks, as well as canoeing clean mountain rivers and caving.
