Public tour at Cabwaylingo State Forest scheduled for May 18, 2013

BECKLEY, W.Va. - West Virginia Division of Forestry officials will conduct a public tour at Cabwaylingo State Forest Saturday, May 18, 2013. This is an informational tour for the public to learn about plans for a proposed timber management project prescribed to provide more diverse wildlife habitat and forest growth potential. The proposed harvest area is the Turkey Creek area on the southern end of the forest. This is the opportunity for the public to learn about the project in order to provide written input.

The tour begins at 10 a.m. Participants should gather at the Cabwaylingo State Forest office. Bring substantial footwear, clothing appropriate for the weather, snacks and water. The tour will involve a one half to one mile hike on uneven ground in the woods; there are no trails but some old roads are involved. There are some hills along the tour path.

Following the Turkey Creek tour, another tour of the headwaters of Bark Camp Branch will take place. The Bark Camp Branch area will receive various cultural treatments to prepare it for a harvest sometime in the future. This tour starts at noon, and participants will meet at the forest office for it as well.

For more information contact Barbara Breshock at the Beckley office at 304-256-6775 or via email at Barbara.A.Breshock@wv.gov. If you are planning to attend, please notify Barbara by noon on Thursday, May 16, so enough transportation will be available.
