Public tour at Cabwaylingo State Forest Saturday, April 18, 2015

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia Division of Forestry officials will conduct a public tour at 10 a.m. at Cabwaylingo State Forest Saturday, April 18, 2015. This is an informational tour for the public to learn about plans for proposed timber management projects prescribed to encourage forest growth and provide more diverse wildlife habitat. The tour is an opportunity for members of the public to learn about the projects firsthand in order to provide written input if they so desire.

The first part of the tour will start at 10 a.m. The project area is below Perry Ridge in the headwaters of the Right Fork of Sweetwater Branch and Long Branch. The second part of the tour begins at 1 p.m. That project area is north of the old fire tower on the north central portion of the forest in the Twelve Pole Creek drainage. Both sections of the tour will begin at the Cabwaylingo State Forest office; participants should meet there prior to the start of each tour.

Bring substantial footwear, clothing appropriate for the weather, snacks and water. The tour will involve a 0.5- to 1-mile hike on uneven ground in the woods with no trails. Some old roads are involved. There are some hills along the tour path.

For more information about the tour or to register for it, contact Barbara Breshock at the Beckley office at 304-256-6775, by cellphone 304-932-7105 or via email, Barbara.A.Breshock@wv.gov. If you are planning to attend, please notify Breshock by noon Monday, April 13, so enough transportation will be available.
