Governor's Office announces energy efficiency projects in Region 8

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  – Gov. Joe Manchin today announced funding totaling $664,733.26 for energy efficiency projects in the Region 8 Planning and Development Council, which covers Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral and Pendleton counties. The projects will be funded through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant supported by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“Reducing energy use in city and county government facilities means energy cost savings,” Gov. Manchin said. “When we conserve energy it is a win-win, for our environment and for our taxpayers because the cost of our government is reduced.”

• Hampshire County Building Commission:
Amount: $200,000
Project description: The EECBG grant will assist in the renovation of the Hampshire County Sheriff Building by supporting the installation of a new HVAC system, windows and lighting upgrades in the facility.

• Pendleton County Commission:
Amount: $200,000
Project description: This project will support the installation of a new oil-fired boiler, heat pump units and new system controls at the courthouse.

• Town of Wardensville:
Amount: $6,240
Project description: These EECBG funds will support the installation of three exterior doors and eight ENERGY STAR-certified windows at the Wardensville Town Hall.

• City of Keyser:
Amount: $61,268
Project description: The project will involve the replacement of four HVAC units serving the City Hall.

• Hardy County Commission:
Amount: $64,575
Project description: The project will involve installing an HVAC system in the Hardy County Commission Annex.

• Town of Franklin:
Amount: $29,500
Project description: The Town of Franklin will utilize EECBG funds to remove the existing HVAC and install a 3-ton ground source heat pump system with two vertical wells. Additionally the town will increase the attic insulation to R-60 to reduce thermal loss.

• Mineral County Commission:
Amount: $53,150.26
Project description: This EECBG grant will allow the Mineral County Commission to replace the windows and doors in the Mineral County Courthouse annexes. It also will support the installation of new HVAC equipment.

• City of Romney
Amount: $50,000
Project description: This EECBG grant will fund the installation of a new HVAC system and additional ceiling insulation in Romney City Hall.
