Division of Forestry increases service to Kanawha County

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service and the West Virginia Division of Forestry have partnered to add a professional forester to better service owners of woodlands in Kanawha County.  The WVDOF is pleased to present the new NRCS Forester, Mark Metz.  He has worked as a private consulting forester for the past 21 years and also was the WVDOF Forester for Kanawha and Boone counties from 1985 to 1990.

An informal gathering is scheduled for March 6, 2012 from 7 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. to provide an opportunity for Kanawha County landowners to meet Mark and to learn how he can assist them with their woodlands.  This meeting will take place at Cross Lanes Service Center.  There will be light refreshment s available for those in attendance.  This get-together is free and open to anyone interested.

Mark is always available to meet with Kanawha County landowners to discuss their goals and objectives for their property.  He can develop a forest management plan for their land, helping to direct them toward those goals and objectives.  Mark also can assist them with sign-up for any cost-sharing practices that may be applicable to their situation.  Once approved for the practice, he can offer hands-on instruction relating to the proper way to complete the practice.  He will also be the person to do the final inspection after completion of the job.

“I look forward to meeting and working with the landowners in Kanawha County. If you would like further information about the meeting, directions to the Service Center or just have questions in general, please do not hesitate to give me a call,” he said.

Mark is able to assist with any questions or concerns property owners may have about their woodlands, the plan or any of the forestry or wildlife cost share practices which interest them. His office is located in the USDA Service Center at 418 Goff Mountain Road, Suite 102 in Cross Lanes.  His telephone number is 304-776-5256 ext. 111.  He can be reached via email at Mark.Metz@wv.usda.gov .
