Division of Forestry Sends Firefighting Crew to California

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A 20-person wild land firefighting crew left Charleston Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, to assist with wildfire suppression efforts in northern California. Sixteen West Virginia Division of Forestry staff members and four specially trained volunteer firefighters make up the crew that will serve a 14-day tour of duty.

The crew drove from Charleston to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Monday, and is scheduled to fly from Harrisburg to California Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014.

Forestry officials said it is yet to be determined to which fire the crew will be assigned.

Randy Dye, director/state forester said, “We have an excellent crew and we are proud to send them to California to represent West Virginia.”
