For example, the state’s history lives on in more than 20 Civil War sites that are listed in the National Register of Historic Places, in addition to 15 Civil War Discovery Trail stops. History buffs and those with a thirst for knowledge are able to visit national cemeteries that house the graves of known and unknown Union and Confederate soldiers, visit serene battlegrounds and see re-enactments that allow spectators to observe an important part of our state and nation’s history.
