Adventures on the Gorge
From whitewater rafting to a tree tops canopy tour that includes zip lines, sky lines,
rappelling and hiking, you can pick your adventure year-round at Adventures on the
Gorge along the New River Gorge and Gauley River in Fayette County.

Whitewater rafting is still one of the
most popular adventures available
in West Virginia. Adventures on the
Gorge provides trips for beginners
on the New and Gauley rivers.
In 2008, three whitewater rafting companies – The Rivermen, Class VI River
Runners and Adventure Mountain River – formed the new company now called
Adventures on the Gorge. By combining their assets and available activities, plus
adding some new ones, they have been successful at drawing thousands of visitors
from across the country to the 200-acre facility.
The resort now features a new lodge, bath house, basic and deluxe rental cabins
and new restaurants and bars. The new Tree Tops Canopy Tour that was added in
2009 has become extremely popular and is open all year. A second zip line course,
Gravity, with a 3,000-foot zip, opened in May. Just about everyone who takes these
rides is a beginner, so extra care is taken with instruction, practice and training, just
as the companies have done for decades with their whitewater rafting operations.
All of the adventures activities are guided and focus on beginners.

Thrill seekers looking for something
new can try a treetop canopy tour
that combines hiking, zip lines, sky
lines and rappelling.
“You don’t have to be a hardcore thrill seeker to join us for an unforgettable
West Virginia vacation,” said Paul Buechler, CEO of Adventure West Virginia Resort.
“You can also enjoy plenty of family vacation fun, New River Gorge resort events,
gourmet dining, sunset float trips, interpretive hiking tours, and much more.”
