The Office of Coalfield Community Development (OCCD) was created to identify and assist communities affected by surface mining activity. The OCCD is responsible for collecting community impact statements from coal mine operators applying for new or renewed surface mine applications.
The office is a resource for determining the assets that could be developed in and maintained by the community. They offer assistance to facilitate the development of economic or community assets which may include the preparation of a master land use plan.
