National Resource Directory

The National Resource Directory is an online tool for wounded, ill and injured Service Members, Veterans, their families and those who support them.  It provides access to thousands of services and resources at the national, state and local levels to support recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration.  It is a collaborative partnership among the Department of Defense, Labor and Veterans Affairs.  The directory offers information on Benefits and Compensation, Education and Training, Employment, Family & Caregiver Support, Health, Homeless Assistance, Housing, Transportation and Travel, and Other Services and Resources.

Personal Assistance/Homemaker Program (304)414-4477

The Aged & Disabled Program is defined as a long-term care alternative which provides services that enable an individual to remain in or return to home rather than receive nursing home care. The goals and objectives of this program are on providing services that are person-centered, that promote choice and independence, participant direction, respect, and dignity and community integration. Comforts of Home employs an agency Registered Nurse (RN) and Case Manager (Licensed Social Worker) to assist eligible persons in obtaining and maintaining in-home care services through the program.

Stars and Strides

Stars and Strides mission is to be the cornerstone of the North Central West Virginia for Equine Therapy. We are a non profit organization focused on therapeutic health through partnerships with horses. Stars and Strides is a 501(C)3 Founded, Incorporated and Chartered by a Board of Directors in 2014. In addition to the Board of Directors, the organization falls under the council of a wide field of experts who serve as the advisory board members. These include: Therapists, Special Education Educators, Certified Equine Assisted Learning Facilitators, Attorneys, Medical Personnel, Military Liaison, CPA's, Horse Trainers and Stable Managers.

Naval Ophthalmic Support & Training Activity (NOSTRA)

Free prescription eyewear for all eligible personnel, including:

  • All Active Duty in any branch of service
  • Active Duty Navy or Marine Corps on recruiting duty
  • Active Duty Air Force or Army on recruiting duty
  • Guard/Reserve on active duty for greater than 30 consecutive days
  • Eligible retirees.

Free Glasses

All active duty military, guard and reservists on active duty more than 30 days, and retired military may be eligible for free glasses and sunglasses.

Transitional Assistance Management Program

The Tricare Transitional Assistance Management Program (TAMP) provides 180 days of transitional health care benefits to help certain uniformed services members and their families transition to civilian life.

Veterans Crisis Line

Every year, organizations across the country recognize September as Suicide Prevention Month.  The Veterans Crisis Line is a free, confidential resource that Veterans and their families and friends can access any day, anytime. Trained professionals — some of them Veterans themselves — are ready to listen, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
