Superior Manufacturing Services, Inc. is a turnkey manufacturer of printed circuit assemblies. The electronic assemblies produced by the 70 employees of SMS are used in a wide variety of industries, including avionics/aerospace, telecommunications, transportation, precision industrial controls and medical equipment.

In February 2006, SMS was acquired by Da-Tech Holdings of Ivyland, Pennsylvania. Da-Tech was founded in 1975 and has three electronics manufacturing facilities; the Delaware location specializes in box build products, the Pennsylvania location specializes in Class 3 medical and military products, and the West Virginia location (SMS) specializes in Class 2 industrial products.

One of the greatest challenges SMS faced was fi nding skilled workers with the electronics knowledge necessary for manufacturing. The award received from the Governor’s Guaranteed Work Force Program helped offset costs associated with new-hire training, enabling supervisors to dedicate one-on-one training time to each of their employees and tailor the training to each employee’s individual needs and abilities.

Outside of Superior Manufacturing Services Thanks in part to this individualized training, fi ve of the 14 employees affected by this award were promoted to higher-paying positions within their fi rst year at SMS!

“SMS is a growing company and we will need to expand our workforce over the coming months and years in order to meet the demands of our business,” said Director of Finance and Administration Kristina Gartner. “We believe the partnership we have developed with WORKFORCE West Virginia and the Governor’s Guaranteed Work Force Program is essential to our continued success.”
