“Manufacturing life-saving equipment and parts that must accurately fi t on other applications demand that we maintain a skilled workforce,” writes Linda Vaughan, human resources manager.

Linking with representatives of the Governor’s Guaranteed Work Force Program and the local Workforce Investment Board, Goodrich was connected with the appropriate training providers who tailored training specifi cally to the needs of existing workers, as well as to a new workforce.

“The Workforce Development’s support of training is an investment in Goodrich employees, and results in higher workforce morale and productivity,” says Ms. Vaughan.

Through quality training employee skills have been improved; consequently, there have been salary increases and resolution of a staffi ng dilemma.

Through this procedure, human resource personnel learned the level of skills necessary for successful entry into those positions. The Work Keys assessment is now being used as part of the Goodrich screening process.

According to Ms. Vaughan change is constant in production methods. “In 2007, we focused on continuous improvement by examining work processes and removing waste from all our employees’ jobs. Training gives employees knowledge that can be used today, tomorrow and in the future to provide a skilled workforce for West Virginia employers.”
