West Virginia is located in the Mid-Atlantic region and is surrounded by Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. The state's Northern and Eastern Panhandles are in close proximity to the production hubs of Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Washington DC.

Of the state's 35 public airports, 7 offer commercial service, including non-stop service to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Houston, New York City (LaGuardia), Orlando, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and Washington DC (Dulles and Reagan).

West Virginia also has dozens of private airports and landing strips, most of which offer general aviation support services. West Virginia is also within overnight trucking distance of more than half of the U.S. population and a third of the Canadian population.
