The Fort Edwards Foundation is an historical site dedicated to preservation of, and education about, a settler's fort built here (at the site of the visitor center) during the French & Indian War in 1755. A modern Visitor Center is open and manned for docent tours from the last Saturday in June through the first full weekend in October, open weekends only, Sat 10-5, Sun 1-5. Special arrangements for school classes or bus tours. Museum shop sells more than 200 titles, books on the F&I War, Colonial America, and some major figures, i.e., Geo. Washington, Christopher Gist, Daniel Morgan, Robert Rogers' Rangers, etc; also maps, period music recordings, and artwork. Seasonal opening day 2012, "Hampshire Family Frontier Day" will be celebrated on Sat., June 30, 10-3, with reenactors, artisans, demonstrations, a nationally known vocalist, wild life presentation (snakes), a period blacksmith, and other personae of our period of focus. Popular food vendor will be present for food/drink. No charge for attendance. Free parking.
